Dr. Kiran Bedi, a retired IPS officer, Indian politician, former tennis player, and social activist, served as the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from May 28, 2016, to February 16, 2021. She holds the distinction of being the first woman Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, commencing her service in 1975.
